Madden Starting Quarterbacks

EA Sports has been slowly rolling out player ratings for 'Madden NFL 21' this week, and today they announced the quarterbacks.

To no one's surprise, Patrick Mahomes earned the only 99 overall at his position. There were only five quarterbacks in Madden 21 to earn a 90 or higher overall rating. As for other top performers, Lamar Jackson was cleary the runaway in the speed category with 96. Bills signal caller Josh Allen tops out throw power with 99.

EA has kicked off their Madden NFL 21 player ratings reveal today, starting with rookie quarterbacks. The top 5 rookie quarterbacks are as follows: Joe Burrow (Overall 76) Tua Tagovailoa (Overall 73) Jordan Love (Overall 71) Justin Herbert (Overall 70) Jalen Hurts (Overall 68) With the assistance from Hall of Famer, Steve Young, here are. The New England quarterback threw for 4,355 yards and 29 touchdowns as he showed little signs of aging. In Madden 20 Brady's exceptional accuracy (99 short, 98 medium, 89 deep) is his greatest. EA Sports’ “Madden 21” released the ratings of the NFL’s rookie quarterbacks on Thursday. Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was rated the highest among the top rookies who were.

Comparing the end of Madden 20's quarterback ratings, there isn't too much of a difference in Madden 21. The top five quarterbacks remain the same, with a slight change, and only Philip Rivers and Jimmy Garoppolo exit the top 10.

Madden 21 QB speed ratings

  1. Lamar Jackson, 96 speed
  2. Kyler Murray, 91 speed
  3. Taysom Hill, 90 speed
  4. Marcus Mariota, 88 speed
  5. Tyrod Taylor, 87 speed

These are the same top five speed quarterbacks from the end of Madden 20 as well. The only difference is Taylor lost a point from 88 to 87 in Madden 21. Overall, this list makes complete sense. Murray, Hill, Mariota and Taylor are all threats with their legs, but not enough to warrant a rating like Jackson.

We actually spoke with Madden developers last year about Jackson's speed and how they tried to avoid breaking the game by making him too fast.

'Our No. 1 goal is making the most authentic NFL experience that we can, and to some level we’re okay with Lamar Jackson being, as a gamer would call ‘a glitch.' We’re OK with that on some level because that’s what he’s doing on Sunday,' Clint Oldenburg, who works on gameplay design and player ratings for Madden, told SN in 2019.

Madden 21 QB throw power ratings

  1. Josh Allen, 99 throw power
  2. Patrick Mahomes, 97 throw power
  3. Matthew Stafford, 94 throw power
  4. Aaron Rodgers, 94 throw power
  5. Cam Newton, 93 throw power
  6. Baker Mayfield, 93 throw power
  7. Jacob Eason, 93 throw power
  8. Justin Herbert, 92 throw power
  9. Joe Flacco, 92 throw power
  10. Lamar Jackson, 92 throw power

The Madden rating experts again didn't stray too far away from what they determined a year ago. Allen remains atop with 99 throw power while Mahomes stands in second. The Chiefs quarterback did get a boost, though, going from 96 to 97.

We have a pair of new faces, however, as rookies Justin Herbert and Jacob Eason enter the top 10.

Additional Madden 21 QB ratings

As of now, these are the only attributes out there regarding quarterbacks. Additional ratings should be released on Madden 21's player database at some point in the near future.

When the new Madden 20 game arrives to gamers in late July and early August, it promises to feature updated gameplay, improved AI, and special new abilities. In particular, superstar or elite-level players are going to be able to showcase their freakish athleticism, throwing power, or defensive intensity. The Madden 20 quarterbacks reportedly got a makeover in terms of how they move based on who they are. In addition, we’ve learned about some more Superstar X-Factor QBs who have a special Pro-Reads ability in the game.

Madden 20 quarterbacks get updated animations

On Friday (June 21), the EA Madden developers provided a new Gridiron Notes on the website. These latest notes specifically discuss what is new with Madden 20 quarterbacks. That will include new and improved gameplay animation based on which quarterback you’re using.

EA mentions that the animation team put in work to give certain quarterbacks authenticity and truly unique motions or moves. These include a number of QBs, although EA listed Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes, and Tom Brady. In particular, they highlight the signature throws such as Mahomes’ “No Look Pass” and Rodgers’ whipping the ball from his hands without stepping into the throw.

EA also mentioned that the Green Bay Packers’ Rodgers will have the “fastest throwing motion in the game” just like he does in the real NFL.

While most gamers are aware that all of the Madden players bring special Key Attributes as part of their player ratings, the developers are really trying to set players apart. To separate the “best from the rest” in terms Madden 20 quarterbacks, they divided all of the NFL QBs up into tiers for their throwing animations.

After Rodgers, the game has a tier with all of the Signature QBs and then one of their “generic animation sets.” They note that Signature QBs will still have considerably faster throws than QBs on the generic tier below them.

Another interesting point they made is that all starting QBs in the game will have the Signature QB tier for their animation speed or in the fastest generic animation package. The one exception they mentioned is Nick Foles due to the fact he’s got a longer throwing motion.

Brady, Luck, Big Ben have Pro-Reads X-Factor

Over the coming weeks, EA Sports is revealing all of the Madden 20 Superstars with X-Factor Zone abilities. Previous reveals have included offensive stars such as Ezekiel Elliott, Antonio Brown, or Odell Beckham Jr. We’ve had several Madden 20 defensive superstars revealed as well. However, one of the more recent reveals shows Madden 20 quarterbacks with a Pro-Reads ability.

Among the quarterbacks who will have this are the New England Patriots’ Tom Brady, Indianapolis Colts’ Andrew Luck, and Pittsburgh Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger. That makes sense as they’re amongst the best in the game. The Pro Reads ability allows these QBs to see the first open receiver from the pocket. Basically, when Brady, Big Ben, or Luck are “in the zone” they’ll see that particular receiver highlighted, making it easier to know where to throw to.

To get in the zone, you’ll need to use one of these quarterbacks and complete three passes in a row. Simple enough, right? To lose Pro Reads ability, all it takes is one sack from defender to lose the ability at that moment. See the Pro Reads in action in the YouTube video below.

The three QBs with the Pro Reads ability join other reveals for Madden 20 quarterbacks. For the longest time, Patrick Mahomes‘ Bazooka arm throwing ability was talked up for the cover athlete. We also learned that Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has a special Blitz Radar. That shows him the approaching defenders for an early escape or throw if needed.

The latest Superstar X-Factor players join a growing list. We’ve now seen Madden reveal 10 offensive players and seven on the defense. However, they have 33 more to go. We’re expecting at least a few more quarterbacks to get reveals soon including Drew Brees and Rodgers.
